Al Dameer mourns the victims of the power outage and demands providing inhabitants of the Gaza strip with safe alternatives

The tragic events in the Gaza strip clearly testify the dangerous consequences of the power outage, some people were burned to death, some were suffocated and others get electrocuted while trying to overcome the power outage crisis and looking for alternative ways of lighting, heating or air conditioning in the summer,  Gazans' ways in finding alternatives come with significant risks which require the duty bearers to come up with a national strategy to meet the needs of citizens when power failures occurred.

Al Dameer  expresses its sincere regret  over the fire incident at the house of Omar Harazeen in Nuseirat camp on 1st September 2020 which led to the death of his three sons and declares its solidarity with the victims' family, it considers this press release as a humanitarian, moral and legal message to the Palestinian national authority and the government of Gaza to assume their legal and moral responsibilities by developing a national strategy to meet the needs of citizens when power failures occurred.

Al Dameer considers the renewal of the electricity crisis as a clear reflection of  continuing failure of officials of power sector to find fundamental and definitive solutions of this crisis, it  affirms that electricity is essential in all aspects of human life and fears a deterioration of the psychological, health and environmental conditions of the inhabitants of the Gaza due to the ongoing crisis of power outage and the resulting incidents, accordingly:

* It demands the Attorney General to open serious investigations into the circumstances of the said incident.

* It confirms that all Palestinian, Arab and international actors hold morally and legally responsible for the catastrophic consequences of the current electricity crisis in the Gaza Strip.

* It calls on all interested parties to take actions to ensure running of the power plant.

* It calls on the international community to put pressure  on the Israeli occupying power to stop its systematic policies towards the Palestinian electricity sector.
