{"id":749,"date":"2026-07-23T09:51:35","date_gmt":"2026-07-23T09:51:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aldameer.org\/en\/?p=749"},"modified":"2026-07-23T09:51:35","modified_gmt":"2026-07-23T09:51:35","slug":"al-dameer-visit-to-naqab-prison-documents-the-dire-conditions-endured-by-palestinian-detainees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aldameer.org\/en\/?p=749","title":{"rendered":"Al-Dameer: Visit to \u201cNaqab\u201d Prison Documents the Dire Conditions Endured by Palestinian Detainees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>23 July 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Press Release<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Al-Dameer: Visit to \u201cNaqab\u201d Prison Documents the Dire Conditions Endured by Palestinian Detainees<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights \u2013 Gaza, as part of its ongoing efforts to monitor the conditions of Palestinian detainees held in Israeli occupation prisons, reports that a lawyer from the Association visited a number of detainees at \u201cNaqab\u201d Prison yesterday, Wednesday, 22 July 2026, to reassure their families about the safety of their loved ones and their situation inside the prison.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">During the visit, the Al-Dameer lawyer documented a range of ongoing violations and abusive practices against Palestinian detainees, reflecting the extremely harsh humanitarian conditions they are enduring amid a systematic policy of repression carried out by the Israeli Prison Service against them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The lawyer confirmed that what he saw and heard from the detainees during the visit demonstrates the continuation of a policy of repression and collective punishment. Detainees in some sections are subjected to daily raids and repression, while those held in other sections face such practices on a weekly basis, without any apparent justification.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The detainees also face systematic denial of adequate medical care, including failure to refer sick detainees to doctors, refusal to transfer cases requiring treatment outside the prison, and delays or obstruction in providing them with the necessary medical care. In addition, insufficient food, the small quantities provided, and its poor quality and unfitness for consumption have led to a dangerous decline in the weight of a number of detainees, with some weighing as little as 45 kilograms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The prison administration has also prevented some detainees from \u201cfawra\u201d (going out to the prison yards), depriving them of their most basic rights to sunlight, fresh air, and physical movement. In addition, medical glasses have been confiscated from a number of detainees, resulting in a severe deterioration in their vision and causing some to suffer partial or complete loss of sight.<\/p>\n<p>In a blatant violation of freedom of belief and the right to practice religious rites, the prison administration has also confiscated Qur\u2019ans (copies of the Holy Quran) from a number of sections.<\/p>\n<p>Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights affirms that these practices constitute a flagrant violation of the most basic principles of international humanitarian law and international human rights instruments, which guarantee a minimum level of human dignity for every person deprived of their liberty. Such practices may also constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity.<\/p>\n<p>The Association calls on all international human rights and humanitarian organizations, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the relevant United Nations Special Rapporteurs to intervene urgently to halt these violations, conduct immediate field visits to assess the conditions of detainees, and exert pressure to ensure the provision of adequate medical care and sufficient food, and to end the policies of isolation, repression, and deprivation imposed upon them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Al-Dameer
