Gaza / Sunday, February 7, 2021, Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights in Gaza held a training meeting on (code of conduct for election observers during the election process) at the headquarters of the association in Gaza city. The 4 hour meeting targeted 30 participants of Friends of Al-Dameer team, with the aim of qualifying them as observers on the election process and making them aware of the code of conduct for election observers and electoral list agents that clarify their rights and duties while they monitor the election process that will be held on 05/22/2021.
The meeting started with welcoming the participants by Ali Shaqoura, the coordinator of the capacity development program, stressing the necessity of conducting the election process in democratic ways by following the code of conduct for election observers during the election process.
While Alaa Skafi, Acting CEO of Al-Dameer, praised the role the team plays in spreading the principles and concepts of democracy and accepting opinions, thanking the team for its interest in such meetings, and stressing that Al-Dameer has the ability and experience in monitoring elections by distributing a number of Its volunteers at polling stations in various governorates of the Gaza Strip.
The meeting included a number of topics related to the code of conduct of trainers, what violations are committed during the election process and how to document them, and the legal framework for the right to monitor, coinciding with the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ issuance of a presidential decree on January 15, 2021, specifying the dates for holding legislative, presidential and National Council elections (PLO parliament), which will be divided into three stages, which marks the first time in 15 years that such elections are organized. The date, May 22, 2021, is for the holding of the legislative elections, and the date, July 31, 2021, is for the presidential elections, provided that the results of the Legislative Council elections are considered the first stage of forming the Palestinian National Council, and that the elections for the National Council shall be completed on August 31, 2021.
This meeting comes within a series of periodic meetings that Al-Dameer organizes for its team during the year 2021, in which it discusses a number of topics aimed at spreading the culture of human rights in the Palestinian society.
