Al-Dameer: Displaced People Suffer from the Lack of Basic Necessities as Winter Approaches.
Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights – Gaza expresses serious concern over the lack of basic necessities for displaced people as the winter season approaches. Among the most pressing issues are the absence of infrastructure in displacement areas, the proximity of these locations to the seashore and open spaces, and the severe shortage of tents, tarps for shelter, winter clothing, footwear, children’s diapers, and heating supplies. These conditions pose a significant threat to the lives of displaced individuals, particularly women and children.
Al-Dameer sounds the alarm to all international, humanitarian, and relief organizations regarding the extreme shortage of essential life necessities. More than 1.4 million displaced citizens are living in tents and shelters that lack the most basic conditions for life and protection as winter draws near.
According to Al-Dameer’s monitoring of the conditions of Palestinian displaced persons, who are sheltering in tents stretching from the central region of Gaza to the southern borders of Rafah, most of the displaced are living in makeshift tents made of fabric, tarps, and weak wooden structures. These shelters have deteriorated due to the harsh summer sun, becoming torn and unsuitable for living or storing belongings. The Israeli occupation has also prevented the entry of new tents for displaced people, causing widespread fear of the coming winter and forcing many to attempt to repair their damaged tents.
In light of these conditions, Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights urgently calls on all international, humanitarian, and relief organizations to intervene swiftly to provide shelter and basic life necessities to protect displaced persons from the impending winter, Al-Dameer also urges the swift provision of aid before the winter season sets in. Furthermore, the association calls on the High Contracting Parties to the four Geneva Conventions to intervene, stop the aggression, and halt the war crimes and acts of genocide committed by Israel’s war machine against Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.
