Al-Dameer Monitors the Voting Process for Deir al-Balah Municipal Elections in the Gaza Strip
Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights – Gaza monitored the electoral process for the Municipal Council of Deir al-Balah in the southern governorates of the Gaza Strip, on the morning of Saturday, 25 April 2026.
The monitoring process covered 12 polling centers, following the accreditation of 20 observers from Al-Dameer Association by the Central Elections Commission.
Al-Dameer notes that it provided training and awareness sessions for its team of observers on the importance of participating in election monitoring, as well as their role in documenting and reporting electoral violations and irregularities, thereby contributing to the promotion of electoral integrity and transparency. The monitoring process commenced with the launch of the electoral campaign, continued through polling day, and extended to the vote counting stage across a number of polling stations in Deir al-Balah.
Within this context, Al-Dameer’s monitoring team documented a number of violations and breaches of the provisions of the Local Authorities Elections Law and relevant electoral regulations.
Al-Dameer commends the role played by the Central Elections Commission during the polling process in the Gaza Strip, and acknowledges the efforts made to manage the electoral process through to polling day, despite logistical challenges and difficult security conditions in the governorates of Gaza.
Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights will issue a detailed report on the conduct of the Deir al-Balah municipal elections, including documented violations and irregularities, as well as a set of recommendations aimed at enhancing the transparency and integrity of future electoral processes.
