Al-Dameer Organizes Awareness Workshop on Local Elections (Deir al-Balah Municipal Elections) in Cooperation with the Civil Campaign for Election Monitoring
Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights – Gaza organized, on Wednesday, 22 April 2026, an awareness workshop on local elections (Deir al-Balah Municipal Elections), in cooperation with the Civil Campaign for Monitoring Local Elections and the Palestinian NGO Network. The workshop was held in Deir al-Balah ahead of the elections scheduled for 25 April 2026, with the participation of 36 eligible voters.
The workshop aimed to familiarize participants with the provisions of Local Elections Law No. (23) of 2025, and to highlight the stages of the electoral process, while emphasizing the safeguards of integrity and transparency.
Lawyer Mohammed Al-Bardaweel, representing Al-Dameer Association for Human Rights, delivered an overview of the Civil Campaign for Election Monitoring. His presentation addressed several key topics, including: the importance of participation in elections; citizens’ right to vote; stages of the electoral process; voting procedures; locations of polling centers; polling timelines; and the proportional list system in use.
Al-Bardaweel also urged all participants to cast their votes, stressing that participation in elections is a fundamental right guaranteed by law and a cornerstone for building a democratic society.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants emphasized the importance of such initiatives in raising electoral awareness, highlighting the need to intensify similar activities to ensure broad and informed participation in elections.
